Manoomin: Where Science and the Sacred Meet

Description

This case study examines the story of a young scientist as she attempts to navigate the complexities of culture, science and the sacred. She is aware of the basic scientific background on wild rice, but doesn’t understand the significance of wild rice to the Ojibwe people. In addition, the case study includes a stakeholder analysis examining the perspectives of the tribes, industry, environmentalists and university researchers. And finally, a systems thinking module helps us better understand the complex interactions in the socio-environmental landscapes.
