Dr. Matthew LaFevor is an Assistant Professor of Geography at the University of Alabama. He was a postdoctoral researcher at SESYNC from 2014-2016. His research interests include agriculture, conservation, and environmental management in Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America. His work has received support from the National Science Foundation, Fulbright-Hays (Education), the Boren Fellowship for International Study (Defense), Partners of the Americas - Jenkins Foundation (State), National Geographic Society, and the British Library Endangered Archives Programme, among others. He received the Wrigley-Fairchild Prize from the American Geographical Society in 2016. Matthew received his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin; his MA from la Universidad de las Américas-Puebla, Mexico; and his BA from Rhodes College.
